Founded in 1980, Alconbury Recreation Field Charity is home to many sporting and community events.
We had a busy 2020 planned, with a full calendar of events. With increased revenue coming in, we planned to refurbish our lounge and buy new folding chairs for the function room. Much of the décor goes back to the 1980s and our recent Community survey highlighted this as off-putting. Then COVID struck!
As a result of Covid we have lost much revenue from rental of our indoor space. Regular user groups such bingo, Zumba and our elderly lunch club still cannot return. Our own fundraising events and private bookings such as parties, christenings have all been cancelled.
Our image has been of ‘a predominantly male meeting place’ and we are working hard to change this through fashion shows, craft fairs, community lunches, children’s parties, fireworks and family events. We are currently planning a youth group for 13 – 16 year olds as this has been identified as a need in the villages.
To redecorate, provide updated furniture and more comfortable seating would really help us to achieve our aims.
